My name is Lani, and this is my personal blog about food and healthy cooking.

I grew up in Manila where my parents ran a fruit store business in the local market. Growing up in the hustle and bustle of the market, I got the chance to try many of the traditional dishes offered by street vendors. My father loved to eat good food. At the end of the day, he would bring home the freshest fruits and vegetables from the market to our kitchen.

In 1987, I went to Singapore and was lucky enough to work in the kitchen of a typical South Asian restaurant. The food in Singapore is infused with the flavors of surrounding countries: Malaysian, Chinese, Japanese, Indonesian, Indian, Thai, Vietnamese and even British influence – contributing to a unique gastronomic experience.

Prior to my trip, I had limited knowledge of food preparation or cooking. For the next 3 years, I learned everything from frying eggs, chopping vegetables to preparing authentic Singaporean dishes. I fell in love with the aromas of exotic ingredients and the “magic” of making food that people loved to eat.

I moved to Canada in 1990 and continued to explore my passion for food and cooking. I am also very fortunate to have met friends from around the globe and learned how to prepare some of their delicious dishes which I will share in this blog.

My passion for cooking has been 3 decades in the making. Since those days in Singapore I have never stopped learning about food and cooking. I am now married with twin boys and also a working Mom. I am a Software QA Tester. I hope that everyone will enjoy and learn something from my cooking blog.
